TENNIS VOLLEY GRIP – The Perfect Tennis Volley Grip

TENNIS VOLLEY GRIP – The Perfect Tennis Volley Grip
Many tennis players struggle to win points at the net in tennis. It’s important to remember that when we approach the net, we reduce the amount of time between shots. If we have two seconds between each shot on the baseline, we may have only one second between shots at the net. Download our FREE volley guide here – https://www.top-tennis-training.com/free-guide/
One of the major reasons to attack the net in tennis is to take time away from the opponent/s. However, if we’re using two or even three different grips at the net, we’ll be rushing to change grips between each volley or smash. That’s why it’s so important to use one grip at the net in tennis.
So what is the best tennis volley grip?
The continental grip in tennis is the perfect grip to volley with.
With the continental grip, we can hit our forehand volley at all heights, our backhand volley, a forehand or backhand half-volley, the overhead smash and even the backhand smash all using the same grip.
This saves time since you’re not trying to adjust your grip between the forehand and backhand volley and it actually creates time for you at the net.
Creating time is crucial for success when you approach the net.

The Continental Grip In Tennis
There are eight bevels on a tennis racket grip. Where you place the base of your index knuckle and the heel pad of your palm, will determine which grip you’re using. When you place both of these pressure points on bevel two, this creates the continental grip in tennis.

Avoid The Hammer Grip
Something that you should be aware of and avoid at all costs is holding the racket like a hammer. This means there is little or no space between each finger and the hand is very compressed. What we should be aiming to do is spread the hand out, especially the fingers which creates more contact with the grip and racket handle. This will make it easier for you to control the racket when at the net. Rafa Nadal likes to hold the racket slightly higher up on the handle to make the racket slightly shorter and easier to manoeuvre.
